Enoch teaches in both manual and automatic. Learning in an automatic removes one whole layer of difficulty — no clutch, no gears, no stalling at the worst possible moment.
Three groups, mostly. People who have failed a manual test more than once and are tired of the clutch being the thing that costs them. People who only ever intend to drive an automatic, which is an increasing number given how many new cars are electric or hybrid. And drivers who find the coordination genuinely difficult — through anxiety, or a physical reason, or simply because they came to driving later.
None of those are shortcuts. An automatic licence is a real licence with one restriction, covered below.
What changes: no clutch, no gear changes, no stalling, and hill starts become straightforward. That frees up attention for the things the test actually marks hardest — observation, positioning, speed management, and reading junctions early.
What does not change: the twelve EDT lessons are still mandatory, the manoeuvres are still on the test, and the standard expected of you is identical. Testers do not mark an automatic more gently.
Pass your test in an automatic and your licence is limited to automatic vehicles. If you later want to drive a manual, you sit the test again in one.
For most people that is irrelevant — they will never drive a manual again. For anyone who might need to drive a work van or a borrowed car, it is worth thinking about before you commit.
Automatic lessons run from Navan for the full range: the twelve EDT lessons, pre-test lessons, mock tests and refresher lessons. Manual lessons run alongside them, so if you are undecided you can talk it through with Enoch before booking rather than after.
